Wilderness Canoe Trips!

The best way to experience the wilds of Maine is to take a canoe trip down one of our many rivers. Maine Wilderness Tours offers some of the State's premier canoe/kayak trips. Custom trips can be arranged too!

Outfitting and Guiding Information

These trips are 100% fully outfitted. All food, equipment and gear are provided along with complete guide service. Participants need only bring sleeping bag, ground pad and personal items. Special menus can also be accommodated upon request. Just let us know in advance. Some of these trips require no special canoeing expertise, although some experience is helpful. An individual need only be reasonably fit in order to manage the rigors of paddling. On some of the longer trips, your guide will bring a small outboard motor as a safety net for certain circumstances. Paddling instruction and wilderness survival instruction are part of the trip too.

Flagstaff Lake
This is our most frequently booked trip. The Flagstaff experience is ideal for both the beginner and the experienced paddler. This 3-day, 2-night trip will take you through the Bigelow Mountain Preserve. A day of hiking can also be added to this trip. Flagstaff Lake is located between Carrabassett and Stratton, Maine in the northwestern section of the state. We also offer overnight lodging accommodations for the night before and after your trip if you choose. On this trip you can use either canoes or kayaks.

You will leave from Baker Lake station down the Southwest Branch and cover approximately 125 miles in seven days. You do not have to be a canoeing expert to enjoy this trip. You will be fully guided, outfitted, and all your meals will be prepared for you. Your host is a Maine Master Guide, expert canoe paddler, and superb outdoor chef! Also, he is certified in CPR, Advanced First Aid and is a member of the Maine Professional Guides Association.

    The St. Croix River

This is a boundary river between Maine and New Brunswick, Canada. The standard trip is two or three days, but can be up to a week. This river encompasses mostly rips and flat water but does have several stretches of moderate Class II water that is great for the beginning white water enthusiast. This river can be run most of the season as it is dam controlled. Wildlife sightings abound and the fishing can be very good at times. This is a great remote camping/canoe experience that can be done in a three day weekend for those that don't have a lot of time available.
